Desire – a poem

Desire

I’m too clever by half
And words won’t come.
A simple love song
Seems meaningless,
Insincere, and yet
How else to express
A burning, aching desire?
I want to fold into
Your breast pocket
Just to hear the beating of your heart
And breathe you in
Deeper than oxygen.
I want to drown
In your flames
And fly so high
That I am buried
By your atmosphere.
I want to mix your metaphors
Until you are as overwhelmed
As I.
